Special operating instructions are provided for theseconditions.2-43. OPERATION IN EXTREME HEATWARNINGWhen required to remain inside the vehicle during extreme heat,occupants should follow the water intake, work/rest cycle, and other heatstress preventive medicine measures contained in FM 21-10 FieldHygiene and Sanitation, and FM 21-11 First Aid for Soldiers. Failure tocomply may result in serious injury or death to personnel.CAUTION• When operating in temperatures above 100F (38C), extra care must betaken to prevent overheating the engine. Watch WATER TEMP gage, STOPindicator, and engine coolant temperature indicator closely. Failure tocomply may result in damage to equipment.• Check oil levels often and keep operating strain as low as possible. Vehiclecooling and lubrication systems support each other. Failure of one systemwill rapidly cause failure of the other system. Failure to comply may resultin damage to equipment.• Idle engine to cool down. Idling cools engine faster than quick shutdown andmay prevent damage to engine from excessive heat. Failure to comply mayresult in damage to equipment.2-292 Change 1
