TM 9-2320-365-34-221-11. REAR OUTPUT HOUSING REPAIR (CONT)d. Bearing Preload Adjustment.NOTECorrect bearing preload is attained byremoving increments of shim pack. If bearingcup bears on rollers, allowing no movement,disassemble all bearing retention parts.(1) Install dial indicator on output housing (1) with stylus onoutput shaft (2).(2) Adjust dial indicator to read zero.(3) Apply upward lift sufficient to fully seat upper bearing (3).NOTE•Dial indicator reading at this point is preliminaryend play which exists with initial shim packthickness of 0.064 in. (1.626 mm).•If reading is not within tolerance, disassemblerear output housing. Replace shims to achievecorrect end play and assemble rear outputhousing.(4) Measure end play of output shaft (2). Reading shouldbe 0.001-0.005 in. (0.025-0.127 mm). Record reading.e. Follow-On-Maintenance.Assemble transfer case module (para 22-3).End of Task21-58
